Candies For Everyone

Who can say no to candy? Help the teacher equally distribute the candies among the five friends.

The five friends each have a different quantity of candies. How can the teacher equally share her 21 candies so that each friend ends up with the same quantity?  


  • Students between Grades 1 and 6 can tackle this puzzle. For Grades 5 and 6, if the students are used to this type of problem, the activity can be done in less than 15 minutes.

  • You can choose to use the video only or do the puzzle in class with candy. This puzzle is a good way to indirectly introduce the concepts of division and mean. After your students have racked their brains, they can eat the candy as a reward!

  • Planning
