Rectangles, Squares

Cut squares out of rectangles!

Try to cut the biggest squares possible out of a rectangle. What are you left with? Do you notice anything?

Formulate hypotheses and conjectures, then validate them. What’s the connection between the dimensions of the original rectangle and those of the smallest square you obtained? That’s food for thought!

  • With this activity, students can explore divisors and multiples while cutting shapes. A surprising connection!
